Uddiyana Bandha, Flying Up Lock 🌬🔒, is used in Pranayama, breathing exercises, to direct Prana, life energy. This abdominal lock is different than the Uddiyana Bandha we practice in Asana, as it requires us to hold the breath. This version of Uddiyana Bandha is also used to perform the purification exercise Nauli, in which we massage the abdominal organs with the rectus abdominis muscles.
I often do Nauli before I do my Asana practice. It’s given me a better sense of connection with my core, and also some really good 💩.
