A new study published in the Open Access journal Genes by researchers from Boston University shows how PAX3, a key regulatory protein, is involved in the development of melanoma, an advanced type of skin cancer.
The researchers developed a novel computer programme which they used to identify regions of DNA in which PAX3 binds, highlighting exactly how PAX3 is able to interact with melanoma DNA. These findings increase current understandings of how PAX3 regulates the development of melanoma, and potentially aid in the future development of drugs that could target PAX3.
