However, in 2018, Magnussen was even faster in the Haas than this year. His personal best from last year was 1:41.905, but he was four tenths slower today with a 1:42.301.

But that's not all. In another surprising turn of events, Magnussen is now the first driver this year not to get the new bonus point for the fastest race lap. The extra world championship point is only awarded to a driver finishing the race in the Top Ten.

However, Magnussen was only in P17 when he took the checkered flag after a late pit stop on Lap 56. Still, it was this stop that enabled him to post the fastest race lap in Singapore. Haas bolted really soft tires on his car, and then, with an almost empty tank and a very light car, Magnussen went back out and undercut Valtteri Bottas' previous best time two laps later by more than a second.

As a result, nothing has changed in the overall rankings of the DHL Fastest Lap Awards. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton continue to lead jointly with three fastest laps each. Valtteri Bottas, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly and Sebastian Vettel have all posted two while Magnussen is now the only driver with one fastest lap to his name.
