Game 1 of this Best of 3 series between the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics delivered everything you would expect from a potential NBA Finals matchup.
The Nuggets came out firing in Boston, building an early double-digit lead behind Jamal Murray’s hot start. But Jayson Tatum responded with a historic performance, dropping 42 points on 18-23 shooting and looking unstoppable from start to finish.
With the TD Garden crowd roaring in the third quarter, Boston stormed back and briefly took control. It looked like the Celtics were about to protect home court.
Then Nikola Jokic flipped the switch.
After a quiet first half, Jokic dominated the fourth quarter, imposing his will in the paint and controlling the tempo. Murray added 27 points and 9 assists, and Denver closed strong to steal Game 1 on the road 81-73.
Now the series shifts to Denver.
