Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park is an easy visit. Once you arrive and find parking, the entrance is right in front of you.
First off, like all the attractions around Vancouver that charge for parking, it’s $8 here, and that’s the maximum allotted time you can have, which covers 3 hours long.
So…when I asked the ticket staff member if 3 hours was sufficient time, she mentioned that it was more than enough to cover everything around Capilano Bridge and Park.
Next, with tax it’s $73 Canadian for admission. You’d think that’s steep but that’s the average price for all sights and activities in and around Vancouver.
So for me, the $73 wasn’t a shock to my system.
Btw, if you’re American, the $73 translates down to $55 US, which is much more manageable.
Capilano Suspension Bridge is open daily from 8:30am - 7pm. I arrived before 8am to start getting pictures. Plus, parking is accessible. But, by the time I returned from the 3 hours walking around and exploring, the lot had filled up entirely!
In the end, 3 hours was good enough that I even needed a 2nd activity to pass the time for the day and after here I went to the top of Grouse Mountain as well.
Upon entering…the suspension bridge is first up if you’d like to cross. I highly recommend getting your photos in immediately because just like parking, eventually the crowds arrive and then you will be “photobombed” by others.
The bridge is not scary from high up. There’s really not much to see when looking out over it. It’s just situated within a forest setting with lots of trees. Walking across the bridge, I never looked down and I wasn’t scared. I will say that the bridge does sway when there’s frequent activity on it.
So, either first go get your pics in at the bridge, or what you can do is venture off to the right hand side and go do the Cliff Walk, which is definitely the next most popular activity in the park.
The Cliff Walk is sort of hidden and off the radar from people’s visits and everyone rushes straight to the bridge first, but the Cliff Walk is worthwhile and will offer some aspects for panoramic views.
It doesn’t take long to do the Cliff Walk. All in all, I’d say maybe 15 - 20 minutes will get you through the self guided tour.
But back to Capilano Suspension Bridge, after crossing it, you can take the Nature’s Edge Boardwalk which is like walking through a forest of trees.
There’s a completely paved/wooden walkway to be immersed among nature. You climb a few stairs and next moment you realize you’re standing high above the forest. This Nature’s Edge goes around Capilano Park. It’s not difficult to walk.
This Nature’s Edge Boardwalk very much reminded me of a place similar to this in Northern California called Trees of Mystery. There you’re getting up close and personal to some of the tallest redwood trees in the world! So here at Capilano, it’s almost an exact replica of Trees of Mystery and vice versa.
Some extra notes…
At the end of the Cliff Walk, there’s a life size wooden framed picture stand saying, “Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park”. It’s a good family photo moment. Everyone was stopping for a picture.
While on the Cliff Walk, there’s an overview lookout platform among the forest that people were stopping for as well. This platform is translucent but as long as you look ahead, you’re fine.
There are restaurants and cafes in the park plus a Souvenir and Gift Shop. This Capilano Park is very touristy and they try and get you for every penny.
At the Gift Shop, I bought a few postcards and a magnet.
By the time I was ready to leave about 11am, the park had filled up completely and was very noisy. The bridge was absolutely packed with visitors. In fact, park staff had to push people along the bridge and stop them from taking so many photos.
My experience was decent. I wouldn’t return though as it’s too rowdy with tourists. I’d prefer to be along a quiet hiking trail in the great outdoors.
Also what’s incredible is just how many people live in Vancouver. Wherever I went, there was traffic and congestion. Whether it was Lynn Canyon, Stanley Park, here at Capilano or Grouse Mountain, lots and lots of bodies everywhere. And it’s not cheap either. These activities from my POV, are expensive.
But, overall, I had this Capilano Suspension Bridge and Park on my To-Do List and so no matter what…I was coming here for my 2nd time visiting Vancouver.
Lastly, they have Animal Talk Shows where you can learn about different species. That made no sense. I didn’t come here to be at a Zoo.
So, in the end, Capilano Bridge was just okay and you only need a portion of the day to complete it. After here I got lunch at McDonald’s before venturing a short ways over to Grouse Mountain Gondola.
Anyhow, thanks for coming along on this journey through Capilano Park and see ya on the next one!
