In this video, I break down a short piece I wrote for the Association of Black Sociologists, where I begin integrating the ideas of Harold Cruse and Marcus Garvey—two powerful thinkers who approached Black liberation, culture, and economic power from different but deeply connected angles.
This isn’t just history. It’s about strategy.
Using Cruse’s cultural critique and Garvey’s economic nationalism as a starting point, I explore how Black intellectual traditions, activism, and economic thought can be integrated—not isolated—to build stronger frameworks for Black economic development today.
