STORYLINE
An Iraqi police official said on Saturday that a roadside bomb in the north of the country killed three policeman.
Police Colonel Sherzad Morferi said the bomb exploded on Saturday targeting a patrol in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.
Two policemen were also wounded.
Despite the overall decline in violence in Iraq, insurgents continue to target Iraqi security forces.
Kirkuk is the centre of a dispute between the Kurds in northern Iraq and the central government in Baghdad over whether the city will one day be part of the nearby Kurdish autonomous region.
The attack came after a wave of attacks across Baghdad earlier this week that killed at least 127 people and shook confidence in the abilities of Iraq security forces as US troops depart.
