In 2024, the Cowlitz Indian Tribe and Columbia Land Trust worked together to remove Kwoneesum Dam, a defunct dam in Skamania County on a tributary of the Washougal River. The removal of the dam immediately restored 6.5 miles of fish passage, benefitting salmon and steelhead.
