Conservative MP Tom Tugendhat highlighted that more than 170,000 young Britons applied to join the Army last year, yet fewer than 10,000 ultimately made it through the recruitment process, despite the Army having capacity for more recruits.

Tugendhat rejected claims of a so-called “snowflake generation”, instead arguing that large numbers of motivated young people still want to serve their country. He referenced comments from Major-General Nick Cowley, who described the idea of a snowflake generation as “absolute rubbish”.
