Описание: Hare , Rabbit എന്നിവ മുയലിന് ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ പറയുന്ന വാക്കുകളാണ് എന്നാണ് പലരും കരുതുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ അങ്ങിനെ അല്ല. രണ്ടും രണ്ട് ജനുസിൽ പെട്ട, വ്യത്യസ്ത സ്വഭാവവും, വ്യത്യസ്ത ക്രോമോസോം സംഖ്യയും ജനിതക ഘടനയും ഒക്കെ ഉള്ള ജീവികളാണ്. നമുക്ക് മുയൽ എന്നൊരു പേര് മാത്രമേ ഉള്ളു. Fox , Jackal എന്നീ രണ്ട് ജീവികൾക്കും കൂടി കുറുക്കൻ എന്ന ഒറ്റ പേര് ഉള്ളത് പോലെ. Cicada, cricket എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ചീവീട് എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നത് പോലെ. കേരളത്തിൽ നമ്മൾ തുറസായ പറമ്പുകളിലും ചെങ്കൽ പാറപ്പരപ്പുകളിലും ഒക്കെ കാണുന്ന, കൊമ്പൻ എന്ന് വിളിപ്പേരുള്ള കാട്ട്മുയൽ’ Lepus nigricollis എന്ന ശാസ്ത്ര നാമത്തിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഇന്ത്യൻ ഹേർ ആണ്. ഇന്ത്യ ഉപഭൂഖണ്ഡത്തിലും ജാവയിലും ഒക്കെആണിവരുള്ളത്. black-naped hare എന്നും ഇതിന് പേരുണ്ട്. ചാരനിറമുള്ള രോമങ്ങൾ ആണ് പുറം ഭാഗത്ത് ഉള്ളത്. കഴുത്തിന് പിറകിലും ചെവിയുടെ അഗ്രങ്ങളിലും കറുപ്പ് അടയാളങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാകും.
