Описание: Pulitzer winner William Warner, the late author of Beautiful Swimmers and Distant Water, talks about nonfiction writing and the environment in this 1985 edition of HoCoPoLitSo’s The Writing Life. Introduced by Columbia Association president Padraic Kennedy, Warner reads the opening of the book and his struggle with explaining the Chesapeake Bay to those who didn’t know it, including characterizing the Bay’s shorelines, watermen and rich underwater biological life. Then he reads the portion of Beautiful Swimmers that augurs the beginning of the dry gale and churning waters on the Bay each winter. In a reading from Distant Water, Warner details the colorful language and culture of fishermen on a British trawler in the Barents Sea in 1977.
