Between July and October 1948, during the Arab-Israeli conflict's third phase, Operation Dani and Dekel led to the war's most significant single expulsion event. Israeli leaders David Ben-Gurion and Yitzhak Rabin ordered around 60,000 residents of Lydda and Ramla to be expelled in what's known as the "Lydda Death March," enduring severe hardships. This expulsion, part of a security strategy despite no evidence of the towns' collusion with enemy forces, resulted in approximately 100,000 displaced Palestinians, exacerbating the Palestinian refugee crisis. The expulsion methods varied; Lydda's inhabitants were forced to walk, while those from Ramla were transported, highlighting an uneven execution of expulsion policies.
