Описание: Webster’s dictionary defines “blood money” as money earned by people who profited from a tragedy. In the eighteen hundreds, large Southern cotton plantations, which were run like corporations, extracted ever increasing cotton production from their slaves by means of utmost cruelty. Field laborers, who picked cotton from dawn to dusk, were assigned a daily quota by their overseers. If they met their daily quota, they were assigned an even higher daily quota. If at any time they missed their daily quota, they would be whipped or beaten by their overseers.
