In this video, I present a complete design and simulation of a single-phase power converter for DC motor speed control using MATLAB Simulink. You can get the Simulink file from thttps://simuscope.gumroad.com/l/ddltav
The project is based on a industrial case study where a 230 V, 50 Hz AC supply is used to drive a 48 V separately excited DC conveyor motor. The system converts AC power into a controlled DC output using a diode bridge rectifier, DC-link capacitor, and a PWM-controlled buck converter.
🔧 What this video covers:
System architecture of an AC–DC power converter
Rectifier and DC-link voltage design
Buck converter operation (ON/OFF states)
PWM generation and duty cycle control in Simulink
Inductor and capacitor filter design
DC motor armature voltage speed control
Simulation results for different duty cycles
Analysis of voltage ripple, transient response, and steady-state behavior
Industrial applications and future improvements
📊 Key Results:
Stable DC-link voltage after rectification
Controlled output voltage proportional to duty cycle
Smooth DC motor speed control
Output voltage ripple maintained below 5%
This project is ideal for:
Power Electronics students
Electrical Engineering final-year projects
