West Bengal Elections: India Bloc to Hold Joint Press Meet on CEC Gyanesh Kumar's Impeachment Today

Описание: The India bloc is set to hold a joint press conference at Delhi's Constitution Club today at 4:45 PM following the rejection of an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The move comes amid a deepening rift between the opposition and the poll body. TMC MP Derek O'Brien alleged that a four-member delegation meeting with the CEC lasted only seven minutes, claiming the CEC told the delegation to 'get lost' when they raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls in West Bengal. The TMC has accused the poll body of bias towards the BJP and alleged that 90 lakh names were deleted from Bengal’s voter lists. While the impeachment motion, supported by over 193 signatures, was rejected by both Houses of Parliament, the India bloc is now re-strategising its legal and political options. The BJP has dismissed the allegations, describing the SIR as a regular procedure and accusing the TMC of playing appeasement politics.
