This is one of the most heartbreaking patterns I see with Parkinson's families. Most parents who move in eventually feel like a burden.
The real reason:
It's not that they became dependent—we accidentally took their purpose away. Care that removes contribution removes dignity.
The mistake:
Doing everything FOR them is the fastest way to make them feel useless. You mean well, but the more you do, the less they can do.
The solution:
They don't need pity—they need to participate. Doing WITH preserves autonomy. Doing FOR accelerates decline.
Safe tasks: folding laundry, stirring soup, sorting mail. If they can do it, they should.
The truth: They don't want freedom back. They want to matter again.
