I'll be talking to you about febrile seizures, which are so common in children. And sometimes though we say as a doctor febrile seizure is common for a parent, especially the parents with a nuclear family nowadays, it is alarming. It may be a simple uprolling of eyeballs or tonic spasms or recurrent jerkiness. Or suppose if your child is having these things without any other issues, without any other developmental delay, no need to worry. Don't be panicky. Keep the child in a well ventilated room. And then with the Suppose the child is having tight clothes, you just remove it and see. Within few minutes it will be alright. No need for any other drug. The only problem will be whenever there are seizures without fever in such children with history of fever, with seizures which are recurrent, then they may need investigation with other EEG, electrolytes, calcium, imaging and sometimes even genetics because some genetic condition may behave like this. So when we should be alarmed, when we should be cautious, suppose if your child is having seizures on one side, repeatedly happening seizures with fever on one side followed by weakness of the hands, weakness of the legs followed by altered sensorium for a prolonged period then you should be worried. So you should keep it in mind whenever your child is having fever with seizures. Usually no drugs are required, no long term medications are advised. We do give Clovis M tablet during the time of fee, fever with seizures around the time of year whenever your child has next episode. But usually these are all not given even in abroad. We found that these drugs are usually in Indian subcontinent. So, even sudden rise of temperature may cause seizures. Don't be panicky. Leave it as such. It will settle down on its own. Consult your pediatrician, neurologist after the seizures.
