We had a meaningful visit to God's Mercy Rural School, a haven for vulnerable children in the rural village of Rakai District. Our interaction with the students was filled with encouraging words, prayers, and gift-giving. It's worth noting that last year, through our "From Dust to Desk" campaign, we provided the school with desks - a step towards improving their learning environment.
However, as the pictures below reveal, there are still several challenges that need to be addressed:
The school lacks proper classroom structures, which can hinder the learning process.
Many students attend school barefoot, which can lead to health issues.
Some students don't have essential learning materials like books and pencils.
The dusty floor poses a challenge, especially for young learners.
Additionally, the students often go hungry while at school, highlighting the need for feeding programs.
