Cooperation among EU Member States on defence matters is not new as such and has been conducted in different formats in the past. PESCO, launched in 2017, proposes a new format in scope, strategy and outcomes.
In this CIFExpress, Migena Pengili unfolds PESCO’s purpose and its contribution to the EU strategic autonomy. She reflects on the way ahead while accentuating two important future outcomes: the consolidation of the EU defence market and the creation of a European multinational defence industrial base.
Migena Pengili is a CIFE graduate and currently PhD candidate at POLIS, University of Leeds as well as Assistant Editor of the "Civil Wars" Journal. This CIFExpress interview was filmed in October 2022.
