This song means a lot to me on many levels - its absolute straight forward and hard punching brutality has pumped me up for so many years. It’s life-renewing. When I originally learned the song, pretty decently I’d say, I had gotten the riffs from Karl Sanders’ “Sebek Lesson” video which seems to be no longer available… I would forget some of the riffs years down the road and then when I started doing covers on YouTube I knew I wanted to do this one right…
Some time later I would hit up Dallas Toler-Wade and long story short he started teaching me guitar lessons. Over time he helped me some of the trickier parts. After seeing so many covers on YouTube, many of them very good, I was pleased to make what I believe the most accurate version yet, with tabs, so anyone could learn this song if they ever wanted to. It’s not that I always need covers to be “perfect”, but for an all time favorite like this, I just wanted to go the extra mile. Please enjoy the song that proved to me I was capable of playing technical death metal after years of doubting myself. Guitarists - YOU CAN TOO.
The tabs were simplified for the video format - for tabs showing less than all 6 strings, the bottom string is always the LOW A STRING. This was in 2 separate takes with no editing aside from equalizing, so mind the mistakes. I was so pleased with how this turned out, so editing was not necessary!!!
About the solo: the sweeping parts of the tab were taken from the official tab book: “Select Antiquities from the Catacombs”, so I know they are right according to Karl Sanders. Also, I clearly do not have a tremolo bar on this guitar, so I just bent the notes and changed some frets to get as close of a sound to the original as possible. I did my best as the solo is a bit on the rough side in the original song. But, the solo you hear is what came out on the FIRST TAKE! So I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. I think the main point is to just have fun playing that solo, in the vein of, say, SLAYER!
