SOUTH GATE (CNS) – A 51-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting two women and wounding another in a domestic violence attack in South Gate was identified Wednesday, along with one of the deceased women.
Eduardo Vasquez was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
The attack occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday in a house in the 8400 block of San Luis Avenue, near Liberty Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff’s personnel responded to the scene to assist South Gate Police Department officers “regarding an officer-involved shooting,” according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
South Gate police officers had responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call from a woman who said a man in her house was shooting a firearm, authorities said.
Responding officers encountered the suspect leaving through the front door armed with a firearm, and he fired several shots at officers who returned fire. The suspect then re-entered the residence, and additional gunshots were heard as police went inside the residence, authorities said.
A wounded woman in her 70s was taken from the house by a law enforcement officer. She was then taken to a hospital by ambulance with stable vital signs, authorities said..
Two more victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds, a 25-year- old woman and a woman in her early 50s, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 25-year-old year-old woman was identified Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Ebony Plancarte, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
A firearm consistent with the one fired at officers was recovered at the scene, authorities said.
Investigators learned the suspect and the three women were related and the shooting appeared to be a case of domestic violence, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Anyone with information about the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8422 or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
