In January 1945, a twenty-year-old kindergarten teacher from the Russian far north lay motionless in the snow of East Prussia, watching a German officer through a four-power scope. She had walked 200 kilometres across the wolf-haunted taiga at the age of fourteen because her village had run out of school grades. By the time she reached the front, she could lie in the snow for eight hours without moving. Her confirmed count stood at fifty-nine. She would be dead within two weeks.

This documentary tells the untold story of Roza Shanina, the Soviet sniper the German press nicknamed "the unseen terror of East Prussia," and the diary she kept in defiance of military regulation that became the only record distinguishing her from thousands of anonymous names in the column of the dead.

Discover how a logger's daughter named after a murdered revolutionary outshot three men on the Podolsk qualifying test, went absent without leave twice and dared them to court-martial her, came back to the line two weeks early after a German sniper put a round through her shoulder, and died covering a wounded artillery officer with her own body.

🔥 In this video:
The Taiga Walk: How a fourteen-year-old girl crossed 200 kilometres of wilderness alone to stay in school.
Podolsk: The sniper school where she beat three men to earn her place behind the glass.
"One Cartridge, One Fascist": The front-page headline that made her a household name.
The Shoulder Wound: Why she returned to the firing line two weeks early.
The Final Position: The Richau estate, the wounded officer, and the count that stopped at fifty-nine.
