(25 Dec 2014) Nearly 200 employees of Bosnian factories that have closed, leaving them without pay for more than a year, marched towards Croatia on Saturday in the hope of getting jobs there.
The workers left their mostly Muslim city of Tuzla in northern Bosnia on a journey of 77 kilometres (47 miles) to the Croatian border.
Croatia, a European Union country, is more prosperous than Bosnia, where unemployment is more than 40 percent.
On Thursday, the workers reached Orasje, where they took a break and Red Cross employees offered them tea.
Bosnia's transition to capitalism and a market economy, which began two decades ago, included the privatisation of state-owned factories, but many of them have gone bankrupt.
Existing laws prevent many of the workers from being laid off, but they often don't get paid.
