This video shows us helping a ewe with lambing. If a lamb doesn't present properly it can be very difficult for the mother to get her lamb out, and/or the lamb may be dead by the time that she finally does. It just goes to show how important it is for the shepherd to be on the ball at all times to minimize the chance of lambs dieing before they're even born.
