LAKE COWICHAN - The centre line of highway 18 near Lake Cowichan led to something shocking and almost unbelievable this morning. RCMP officers and B.C. ambulance were called to a vehicle accident and found a westbound truck had been hit in the windshield by a rock, which officers say fell from an eastbound logging truck.
"I've never been to where something has fallen of a logging truck and killed someone," said Lake Cowichan RCMP officer Cst. Jim Preston.
The 52-year-old man struck by the rock while driving his truck was rushed to hospital in Duncan, but died from his injuries. Witnesses say the truck, which they saw the rock fall off of, did not stop and Mounties think the driver may not have even realized something had happened. Now RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen something or any truck driver who was driving just east of Lake Cowichan after 9:30 am to come forward.
