On September 17, 2025, the technical team of the Office of the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs inspected the progress of the road construction project extending from the Airport intersection to the Customs Office.
The technical team, after reviewing the works carried out by Kabul Municipality and the contracting company, commended the implementation in line with the approved plan and design. The team further instructed the contracting company to complete the remaining works within the stipulated timeframe while adhering to all required standards.
Officials of the contracting company expressed their gratitude to the Office of the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs and Kabul Municipality for promptly addressing their concerns and assured that the remaining works would be completed with good quality and within the scheduled time.
The extended road from the Airport intersection to Customs Office is 2.7 kilometers long and 60 meters wide. Currently, 80 percent of the works have been completed, and the remaining portion is expected to be finalized within the next three months.
The road includes two main carriageways, pedestrian pathways and drainage systems on both sides, five green medians, traffic signs, and all other components of a standard road. Upon completion, it will help reduce traffic congestion in Kabul city, facilitate passenger and freight transport from the eastern provinces to the north of the country, and give the city a more modern and standard appearance.
The total cost of the road project amounts to 407 million Afghanis, financed from the Kabul Municipality budget.
It is worth noting that the project was inaugurated on April 28, 2024, by the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.
