Before I sing these two songs, I want to share a theory. One part myth, one part memory, one part ache.
What if Hotel California and American Pie are both about the same forgotten spirit?
Not just a time, not just a sound—but Lady Liberty herself. Not the statue. Not the slogan. But the soul of freedom we once believed in: a spirit which would have been traditionally interpreted by most cultures of the world as a goddess of wild hope and fierce grace.
She wasn’t always stone and silence. People used to write poems to her. And now… we struggle to remember her face.
In Hotel California, she’s gilded and trapped—a mirage we worship even as it swallows us whole. “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.” That’s not a hotel. That’s a broken promise.
In American Pie, her funeral dirge plays out across the decades. “The day the music died” might be the day she stopped being heard. Replaced by jesters, drowned out by noise.
These songs aren’t just nostalgia—they’re elegies. Lamentations. Expressions of huddled masses yearning to be free...
And perhaps this deep truth is what so many people subconsciously respond to with these two songs.
I sing them not just to remember, not just to mourn: but to call her back.
There is a bonus surprise song that is thematically relevant on the end too!
Повторяем попытку...
