Let's get into the questions!
1. What is Direct to Garment printing?
DTG printing is the process of printing artwork and designs onto a garment without transfers. This process uses water based inks and pretreat.
2. What materials work best for DTG printing?
The most suitable fabrics for DTG printing are cotton, light polyester, and natural fibers.
3. What is the maximum print size on the DTG G4?
The maximum print size for the DTG G4 printer is 16 by 20 inches.
4. Does the DTG G4 come with different sized platens?
The G4 printer comes with 3 different vacuum platens, so there is no hooping required. The 3 vacuum platens are in sizes: 10.5" x 13," 14" x 18," and 16" x 20."
5. Can the DTG G4 be used as a Direct to Film (DTF) printer?
Yes, every DTG G4 printer package comes with a DTF kit that consists of DTF adhesive powder, DTF film, and a shaker tube.

6. What is the difference between DTF and DTG printing?
Both printing methods use water based inks but have a different process. DTF printing uses a powder that is applied to the back of a printed transfer, acting as an adhesive. This is then heat applied to the garment using a heat press. With DTG printing, pretreat is used as the adhesive and then the design is printed directly on the garment, requiring no physical transfer.

7. What are the advantages of having a DTG printer with DTF capabilities?
The biggest advantage to this is being able to print on dark colored polyester material. Another advantage is being able to print a sheet full of designs instead of one at a time. This allows you to print on hard to reach areas of a garment, like left chest and sleeve placements.

8. Do you need pretreat when using the G4 as a DTF printer?
Although pretreat is necessary for DTG printing, you do not need it while using the G4 to create DTF transfers.
9. Do you need an extractor unit when using the G4 as a DTF printer?
In traditional DTF printing, an extractor unit is used to remove smoke and fume from the dryer. However, since a heat press is used to cure the powder with the G4 machine, an extractor unit isn't necessary.
10. What type of heat press is ideal for the G4 printer?
For creating both DTG and DTF prints with your G4 machine, we recommend having a heat press with hover capabilities like the George Knight 16" x 20" Auto Pop.
