Do you love gravy?? Tell me in the comments below!
Gravy can totally fit in a kidney friendly diet! If you’re using store bought gravy, it may be higher in sodium than you’d like. If this is the case, try limiting your portion size!
If you’re making homemade gravy, it’s so much easier for you to control how much sodium is in it. Here is my favorite homemade low sodium gravy recipe!
Ingredients:
-1.5 cups low sodium vegetable broth
-¼ cup avocado oil
-¼ cup flour
-1 tsp dried sage (or more to taste)
-2 tsp garlic powder (or more to taste)
-1 tbsp nutritional yeast
-1 tsp black pepper (or more to taste)
-1 tsp dried thyme (or more to taste)
-Salt can be added, just be mindful that if you add salt, you will also need to add more sodium to the nutrition information below!
Directions:
Heat oil on the stove on medium heat. Once oil is heated, slowly whisk in the flour to create a roux. The roux should be smooth and tan colored.
Once the roux is smooth and creamy, slowly whisk in the vegetable broth. Continue to whisk until it is all combined (about 2-3 minutes).
Add in herbs, nutritional yeast and spices. Stir well. Enjoy! Feel free to add more herbs and spices to taste.
