Thanksgiving Turkey on the campfire with baked cornbread muffin... (part 1)...and yes it is a turkey

Описание: Snowstorm moving in tonight...and will be blowing and snowing all day Thanksgiving day...so we got a little head start on cooking our meal on the pit.

We used the dutchboven for the boned turk...about a 10 pounder...saved the wings for another meal... and boiled the bones to make soup the previous day.

I slipped and called the Turkey a chicken.???sorry for the confusion

This very basic recipe came out so good we might have to do this one again...and again...

This bird will go down in the books for us as very memorable and tasty...in 45 years my wife and I being married we have cooked hundreds of these(in the oven etc...and a few on a gas grill)...its for sure in the top 5 of them all...

This is our 4th thanksgiving "off the grid"...we had hoped to have our cabin closed in by now... we got real close..
Im sure next year we will be in it...

Ok...to the bird...i used both pits today...the deeper one for the dutch oven and turkey...the shallower one for the skillet to bake some corn muffins.

After boning the turkey out I sliced up an onion and green apple...greased the oven well with some bacon grease...and poured in about 6 cups of chicken boullion i made from The little cubes you buy.

Added basic salt and pepper...and got to a simmer...it took 90 minutes to get all the meat to 170 degrees...

The muffins came from a favorite mix from north dakota...we added some yougurt and kernels of yellow corn to the batter...greasesd up the muffin pan , added the batter and put them into the skillet...there are some special things I did here to make sure the skillet was hot enough...but not too hot...the video show that well...with the extra ingredients the muffins took about 25 minutes...but remember we are also at 8,000 feet elevation...
