Supreme Court Questions Reservation for Children of IAS Officers and Other Top Officials.

Описание: On 22 May 2026, the Supreme Court Bench of Hon’ble Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Hon’ble Justice Ujjal Bhuyan heard a matter concerning OBC reservation and the creamy layer principle.

The Bench questioned whether reservation benefits should continue to be extended to the next generation when parents have already achieved significant social, educational, and economic advancement, including holding senior government posts such as IAS officers.

The Court also examined the issue of whether salary income should be considered while determining creamy layer status.

The Supreme Court has issued notice in the matter and kept the larger questions open for detailed consideration.
