Another video from our trip to Sikkim in Apr 2019.
Enroute Zuluk, we came across the old Baba Mandir. The shrine is built in the memory of Capt Harbhajan Singh, martyred near Nathu La. The army folks in the region believe that Baba Harbhajan Singhji's spirit protects every soldier in the inhospitable high-altitude terrain of the Eastern Himalayas.
He is accorded a the saint status and is said to protect his country and countrymen. Every year on 11th September, a jeep departs with his personal belongings to the nearest railway station, New Jalpaiguri, from where it is then sent by train to the village of Kuka. A seat is left empty for this journey to his hometown and 3 soldiers chaperone the Baba to his home.
There is also a new Baba Mandir built a bit further from Tsomgo Lake for easy access to the tourists. More on that in our next video. Stay Tuned!
