Since 2021, a plethora of cases are piling up in the civil and district courts of Varanasi by Hindu believers. These men and women claiming to be Lord Shiva devotees are on a mission to have the mosque removed. They believe that Aurangzeb demolished a grand Lord Shiva temple and built the Gyanvapi mosque on its ruins. The main shivling, they stay, is buried under the mosque.
