(7 May 2015) People cheered and gasped in surprise as exit polls for the UK general election predicted the Conservatives will be the largest party, gaining close to a majority.
In an auditorium at London's School of Economics some of those gathered waiting for the results said they were surprised at the Conservatives' lead in the exit poll, adding they expected the numbers to be tighter.
Exit polls showed conservatives will fall just short of a majority in the House of Commons - gaining 316 seats to 239 for the opposition Labour Party, British broadcaster Sky reported on Thursday night.
