This teapot is very, very complicated.

Lots of details, lots of reflections.

What a nightmare, right?

Perhaps not, though. What I’m going to demonstrate for you today is painting a complicated subject with the absolute minimum number of brush strokes.

I'll be approaching it like this: Work out the simple, big shapes. Get the values and colours right of those big shapes right. Place those colours and then handle the edges.

This is extreme simplification. And it is the secret to painting tricky subjects like this.

The app I use to investigate the colour is called ChromaMagic. You can find it on the Apple and Google Play stores, and there is also a Windows version. It's very inexpensive and extremely useful!
