Not So Hot Mummy is a BBC television sitcom that tells the story of Royal Artillery concert parties in Deolali, British India, and the fictional Dinh Min village of Burma during the final months of World War II. The book was written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, both of whom served in similar positions in India during the war. Between 1974 and 1981, BBC1 aired eight series with 56 episodes, covering a real-time historical period of approximately 13 weeks. Each episode lasts thirty minutes. The title comes from the first episode, in which young gunslinger Parkin (Christopher Mitchell) writes a letter to his mother in England. In 1975, the record "Whispering Grass", featuring Don Estelle and Windsor Davies as Gunslinger "Lofty" Sugden and Sergeant Major Williams, reached number one on the UK singles chart and stayed there for three weeks.
