Jo-Anne Reyneke and Thami Mngqolo shocked their fans in May when they announced they were splitting up after more than eight years together.
The couple, who have two children together, parted ways on good terms despite tabloid reports which suggested that cheating and money problems contributed to the separation.
“We both sat down and agreed that this is the right thing to do for all involved. We are both very private people but we have decided to make this announcement to prevent any false speculations. We’ve both taken positive steps forward,” the pair said in a joint statement at the time.
Jo-Anne has now given us more insight into why the seemingly happy lovers called it quits.
Speaking on Metro FM’s Fresh Breakfast show, she opened up about the moment she realised the relationship was coming to an end.
“Maybe half a year ago… you hear the relationship advice that every relationship goes through – it’s ups and downs, so you’re like, ‘Maybe this is our down’ but then you’re like, no dog, I can’t. I must want to come home after work,” she said.
The exes have officially been separated for eight months and Jo-Anne has no regrets.
She says her children “deserve happy parents”.
“Whenever you get to feel in a relationship like ‘Maybe I deserve more’ or ‘Maybe I’m not what you deserve’, it’s time to part.”
She described the process of breaking up like “a death in your life”
