Basant is a colorful traditional festival in Lahore, but it has many serious disadvantages that cannot be ignored. One of the biggest problems is the use of chemical and metal kite strings, which are extremely dangerous. These sharp strings have caused many accidents, especially for motorcyclists, leading to severe injuries and even deaths.
Another major disadvantage is the loss of human lives. Every year during Basant, people fall from rooftops while flying kites, and many are badly injured. Hospitals face emergency situations, and rescue services come under heavy pressure.
Basant is also very harmful to birds and animals. Birds often get trapped in kite strings, which injure their wings or kill them. This damages the natural environment and disturbs the ecological balance.
