Future Project Introduction : "Roached" & Robbed 1956 Olympic Television 📺

Описание: Here's an introduction to what is bound to be a damn interesting project for this channel...when I finally get around to it.

I don't win them all...at least on the first try. This is the "organ donor" television from which the 90° picture tube currently in the 1956 Philco console television was taken.

This Olympic came my way while I was working to revive the old Philco, which I knew would probably require another 70° picture tube. The Olympic had the better picture tube while the Philco had the better chassis. I set forth to save both of these sets ! The chassis revival of the Philco went quite smoothly and quickly. The chassis in this Olympic, however, turned out to be in exceedingly poor condition. Many parts were missing, and there was also extensive damage from roaches 🪳 that had thoroughly nested throughout the cabinet and chassis. The many production changes Olympic had made in these sets, dotted into the Sams service schematics, were a source of frustration as well ! After several months of struggling on this one while the Philco performed reliably, I called it quits on this one and gave the Philco the picture tube it was desperately needing. I didn't know if I would ever try again on this Olympic. But, it and the Philco's fates became intertwined at that point.

Now that I'm working toward installing a "new" 70° picture tube in the Philco, I'll need to return the current 90° tube to this Olympic. Accessing the many new parts the chassis in this set is holding will be difficult once that is done. I need those parts for other more promising projects now. However, along the way, I've decided this television deserves another chance as well ! It'll be a challenging job, and I don't know how long it'll be before I'm ready to tackle it again. Still, I fully intend to. In the meantime, the new parts recovered from it will help greatly with other upcoming projects, some of which will be crucial to the fate of this Olympic as well as other televisions and radios in the future here. I never say die as long as I can imagine a way to save one of these old sets. I think I have a good plan now to finally repair the original chassis in this one. It's just going to take time to prepare. Anyway, here's this 1956 Olympics story thus far. If you have the stamina 😂, hang around till the end. I think it actually cleaned up ✨️ nicely 😁.
