We dug into practical, back-to-basics job readiness for youth and young adults. Sheila shared how NextGen (ages 16–24, out of school) helps participants with GED support, tuition/books/fees, resume building, mock interviews, financial literacy (with local bank partners), entrepreneurship exposure, and paid work experience by partnering with employers.
Eligibility focuses on youth with barriers (low income/skills deficient, SNAP recipients, justice-involved, parenting youth, homeless, foster care, runaway). We also talked interview fundamentals—first impressions, hygiene, eye contact, confident answers, clear follow-ups, and using local resources (Salvation Army clothing vouchers, libraries, NCWorks). Big reminder: humble beginnings build skills—learn to work for others so you can one day work for yourself.
