This is a video of the top 5 rapids on the North fork of the Payette. I have 2 other videos that show the middle 5 and the lower 5.
I broke it up into parts since the run and the rapids are so long. This was my first time doing this run after hearing about it for years. It was harder than I thought it would be with way bigger consequences. A swim from a broken paddle, blown sprayskirt, or bad surf in a hole could become fatal really quick. The rapids are really long and continuous with little chance for getting out once a swim has begun. I know the run has been done higher and in worse kayaks but I was surprised how committing the rapids are. It was really weird coming around a corner and not being able to see the bottom of the rapid. Thankfully I had Bernie Engelman to lead me down the run.
