মঙ্গলবার (৬ আগস্ট) দুপুরের দিকে বিমানবন্দর থেকে তাঁকে আটক করা হয় বলে জানিয়েছেন বিমানবন্দরে দায়িত্বরত আইনশৃঙ্খলা রক্ষাকারী বাহিনীর একজন কর্মকর্তা।
বিমানবন্দর সূত্র জানিয়েছে, ভারতের রাজধানী নয়াদিল্লির যাওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে তিনি বিমানবন্দরে গিয়েছিলেন।
এখন পর্যন্ত জানা যাচ্ছে— শাহজালাল আন্তর্জাতিক বিমানবন্দরের ভিআইপি লাউঞ্জে অপেক্ষায় ছিলেন জুনাইদ আহমেদ পলক। তখন বিমানবন্দরের কর্মচারীরা তাকে ভিআইপি লাউঞ্জে আটকে রাখেন। কিছুক্ষণ পর বিমানবাহিনীর কর্মকর্তারা এসে তাকে আটক করেন।
ছাত্র-জনতার অভ্যুত্থানের মুখে গতকাল শেখ হাসিনা ভারত পালানোর পর থেকেই খোঁজ ছিল না পলকের। তিনি দেশে আছেন না কি বিদেশে পালিয়েছেন তা নিয়ে নানা গুঞ্জন ছিল।
গত সোমবার (৫ আগস্ট) তাঁর ব্যক্তিগত সহকারী গণমাধ্যমকে বলেন, রোববার (৪ আগস্ট) রাতের পর থেকে পলকের সঙ্গে তিনি যোগাযোগ করতে পারছেন না।
ছাত্র-জনতার আন্দোলনের মুখে শেখ হাসিনার দেশত্যাগের খবর প্রচারের পরপরই নাটোরের সিংড়ায় জুনাইদ আহমেদ পলকের বাড়িতে হামলা চালায় বিক্ষুব্ধ জনতা। এদিন বিকেল ৪টা নাগাদ সিংড়া উপজেলা সদরের গোডাউন পাড়ায় পলকের বাড়িতে জনতা আগুন জ্বালিয়ে দেয়। এ সময় লুটপাটের ঘটনাও ঘটে।
