In this video, Seattle guitarist Mark Wand compares two parlor guitars with strikingly different builds:
----- Simon & Patrick Woodland Pro – a solid mahogany steel-string parlor guitar with X bracing
----- Godin Motif Turbo Guitar – a classical guitar transformed with steel strings and the TurboTail
Why This Comparison Matters:
Without the TurboTail, this sound test wouldn’t be possible. The Godin Motif is a nylon-string classical guitar with light fan bracing. Normally, installing steel strings would risk damaging the soundboard. But the TurboTail solves that: it reroutes string tension away from the soundboard and into the tail block—protecting the instrument while enhancing resonance, projection, and dynamic range.
📌 Both guitars have:
– Identical parlor body sizes
– 12th fret neck joints
– Soundboards: Spruce (Woodland Pro) vs. Cedar (Motif)
– Scale length: 24.75" (Woodland Pro) vs. 25.5" (Motif)
– Built by Godin Guitars in Quebec, Canada
