The aim of the Division of Molecular Genetics at Samsung Medical Center in Korea is to provide a multidisciplinary approach to cancer and inherited genetic disorders, with a genome-based, individualy tailored precision medicine.
Samsung Medical Center is an excellent place to do this. With a patient centred, multidisciplinary structure - foregoing the normal department oriented system and providing an integrated team to every patient - and as a completely paperless hospital with a state of the IT infrastructure, geneticists and their surrounding team can provide a world class service to patients with a wide range of diseases.
At the heart of the Division is the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Genetics. The department oversees the biggest clinical genetic lab in Korea, with CAP-accreditation and providing a centralized service across its large population. Offering Next Generation Sequencing to all patients, the lab has reported the first known Korean case for over 100 genetic diseases.
