1.Curvature is consistent with the moment diagram
2.Satisfy boundary conditions
3.Original angles remain unchanged (as appropriate)
4.Member lengths remain same
Member projections equal original length
Axial deformations are much less than flexural deformations
This example critiques the proposed deflected shape of a cantilevered highway sign-like structure and provides an improved shape suitable for use in the application of the moment area method.
