Nevada State Railroad Museum July 1st 2023

Описание: Last summer I went on a road trip with friends to Reno Nevada for a bowl tournament. While we were in Reno, I suggested that we go check out the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City about a half hour drive away. So on July 1st, we made the trek and paid this location a visit.

This spot has been on my bucket list for many many years. Especially a railfan from Canada, this was a huge moment for me. It was quite a toasty day. It was over 100 degrees but there was a nice breeze blowing and the dry heat felt quite lovely as we checked out the museum. The chance to see the Inyo was a really special moment. I grew up watching and loving the Disney movie "The Great Locomotive Chase" with Fess Parker, and the Inyo played the role of the "Texas".

The first train I rode on was the 1910 built Mckeen Motor Car #22 from the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. This was quite an interesting piece of railroad history. As a big steam fan, getting to see something like this was pretty cool. I wish I had more footage of the car.

After going on the motor car, I then waited for Virginia and Truckee #25 to pull up to the station. Built in 1905 by Baldwin, this old girl looked great but she was having a tough time when I hopped aboard. You'll notice that she had a tough time finding her feet and was struggling a bit trying to climb up the small hill around the property. From what I remember, one of the brakes on one of the cars was dragging which doesn't help, but also on top of that being over a hundred degrees, it tends to make the rails a tad bit slippery.

This was also a part of the Museum's upcoming Independence Day steam up, so it was quite special to be there when they had all of their working steamers running, both Standard and Narrow Gauge. The Inyo was running on low boiler pressure as the old girl is over a hundred years old. She was built in 1875 after all, but the old girl still looks amazing.

I wish I got to film more, but since it was a hot day and my friends are not as big of fans of trains as I am, we soon had to head back to Reno and prepare for our big tournament. It was a great experience overall to see this wonderful place, if you haven't been I highly recommend it! I hope to one day go back and spend a good amount of time checking everything out.
