The U.S. Navy ranks are built on heritage. Over 100 years ago the rank of the chief petty officer was created. Now as we move forward there is room to change and grow to create brand new ranks. Some think this breaks the rules as we take pride in our rate. However, as we move up the ranks it is known you do less and less with this specific rate, job, or skill.
