The film is itself an adaption of the 1959 stage musical "The Sound of Music", which was composed by Richard Rodgers (with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II).

In the film's iconic opening scene, "The Sound of Music" is performed by Julie Andrews (who plays Maria von Trapp) in a magnificent mountain scenery.

The film won five Academy Awards (including "Best Picture" and "Best Music"), two Golden Globe Awards, and is preserved in the United States Library of Congress.

The film's soundtrack became a part of American cultural heritage, and is full of wonderful melodies.

"The Sound of Music" is certainly one of the most beautiful songs from the film's soundtrack, and it makes for an amazing piano cover!
