The episode follows U.S. Air Force Pararescuemen (PJs) responding to a mission in Afghanistan to medevac two Afghan allies who have been wounded in a firefight.
While in flight, one of the guns on their helicopter malfunctions. Because of that, the rescue team must adjust their tactics mid‑air to ensure they can land safely and complete the mission.
The landing zone (LZ) is dangerous—not only because of enemy fire, but also due to the threat of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which slow down the operation and increase risk.
Under these stressful conditions, there’s high pressure on the PJs to get their allies to safety quickly. Meanwhile, after the mission, back at base, the men have to cope with the psychological and emotional stress that comes from doing such dangerous work.
