First Pakistan Global in collaboration with CUSP and CAPJ — Pakistani American diaspora organizations — has organized this Congressional Seminar to brief the Members of Congress and bring awareness to the November 26, 2024 tragedy where security forces opened fire on peaceful, pro-democracy, unarmed civilians in the heart of Islamabad, Pakistan. The horrific event left more than a dozen dead and hundreds missing or imprisoned, and has sent shockwaves through the global community. Unfortunately, the regime continues to suppress coverage and silence those reporting on the shooting. This marks yet another terrible chapter in Pakistan’s ongoing democratic backslide, characterized by mass arrests, political persecution, restrictions on free speech and journalism, gross human rights violations, military trials of civilians, arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances of dissent, stolen election of February 2024, undermining of judiciary and the rule of law, U.S. citizens and residents experiencing transnational repression, Magnitsky sanctions against perpetrators of human rights crimes, and accountability for Pakistan's army generals for human rights violations. This atrocity, a crime against humanity, demands international attention and accountability.
